Gustav Plaehn

Gustav Plaehn (born June 27, 1859 in Latzig , Deutsch-Krone district , West Prussia ; † October 3, 1934 in Gera ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher.

Life

As the son of a pastor, Plaehn attended high school in Schneidemühl and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin , where he passed Michaelis ' school- leaving exam in 1877. He began to study classical and Germanic philology at the Eberhard-Karls-University and became active in the Corps Borussia Tübingen in 1878 . He heard among others Friedrich Paulsen , Karl Reinhold von Köstlin and Philipp Strauch . As an inactive , he moved to the Royal University of Greifswald for the summer semester of 1879 . At the same time he served in Greifswald as a one-year volunteer in the Prussian Army . As a reserve officer , he later reached the rank of captain . From the winter semester 1879/80 to the summer semester 1881 he studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . There he heard Adolf Kirchhoff , Johannes Vahlen , Karl Müllenhoff and Wilhelm Scherer . With a thesis on Nicander it was established in March 1882 by the Faculty of Arts Friedrichs University Halle to Dr. phil. PhD. In January 1883 he passed the exam pro facultate docendi before the scientific examination committee in Berlin. As a student of the Kgl. He passed the gymnastics teacher examination in 1884.

He spent half of the probationary year at the Züllichau pedagogy and half at the Köllnisches Gymnasium in Berlin. At Easter 1884 he started as an assistant teacher at the Friedrichgymnasium (Altenburg) . Since Michaelis has been permanently employed in 1885, he was appointed senior teacher and high school professor there (1900). After 20 years in Altenburg , Michaelis joined the Rutheneum grammar school in Gera in 1905 as director . From 1907 to 1921 he was a lecturer in the Prussian Ministry of Spiritual, Educational and Medical Affairs . Relieved of his post as headmaster for political reasons in autumn 1923 and reinstated in April / May 1924, he was retired in August 1924 at the age of 65.

In his publications he dealt with Biterolf , Homer and Patroklos , with the writers Hans Hoffmann and Wilhelm Raabe , with teaching at humanistic grammar schools and not least with the history of his Gera school. He was married to Martha born in 1886. Herrmann.
