Gustav Thies

Gustav Thies (also: Gustav Thieß ; born September 5, 1845 in Hanover ; † October 19, 1918 in Oberlahnstein ) was a German actor , director and theater director who also emerged as a writer with plays and stories.

Life

Gustav Thies was born in 1845 in the royal seat of the Kingdom of Hanover . He made his debut as an actor in Rostock in 1865 at the age of around 20 , before taking on various engagements such as in Bremen at the Bremen City Theater , in Meiningen at the court theater there , in his hometown as a member of the court theater ensemble at the Royal Court Theater .

During the founding period of the German Empire, Gustav Thies worked at the opera house there in Kassel from 1877 to 1893 as an actor, from 1885 also as a director and from 1891 as a senior director.

Shortly before the turn of the century, Thies went to Lucerne to direct the local theater there from 1898 to 1902 . He then went to Poznan and directed the Poznan City Theater from 1902 to 1910 .

Gustav Thies died on October 19, 1918, in the last days of the First World War , at the age of 74 in Oberlahnstein.
