Gustav Mühlbauer , knight of Mühlbauer since 1870 (born August 5, 1816 in Munich ; † March 29, 1889 ibid ) was a royal Bavarian major general and knight of the Military Max Joseph Order .

Life

Gustav Franz Xaver Ritter von Mühlbauer was the son of the royal Bavarian chief auditor Franz Xaver Mühlbauer and his wife Johanna, née von Rothhamer. He joined the Bavarian Cadet Corps as a pupil in 1827 and was appointed Junker in the 1st Line Infantry Regiment on July 31, 1834 .

On March 20, 1835, he received his officer license as a second lieutenant in the 7th Line Infantry Regiment and was transferred back to the 1st Line Infantry Regiment on December 20, 1837 as such. Appointed inspection officer in the cadet corps in 1842, Mühlbauer was appointed adjutant of this institution in 1844 and also employed there as a teacher in 1848. On April 19, 1845 he was transferred to the 11th Infantry Regiment and promoted to lieutenant on May 29, 1846 and to captain 2nd class on October 9, 1849 . With the promotion he also ended his activity in the cadet corps. On June 25, 1854 he was promoted to captain 1st class in the 11th Infantry Regiment.

As a major , since May 9, 1859, Mühlbauer was transferred to the 10th Infantry Regiment and there on July 5, 1866 promoted to lieutenant colonel. As such, he took part in the campaign against Prussia during the German War and fought, among other things, in the Battle of Kissingen on July 10, 1866. On May 12, 1869 promoted to Colonel in the 5th Infantry Regiment, he took part with this unit from 1870 to 1871 participated in the Franco-Prussian War . For his services during the battles near Weißenburg and Wörth on August 4th and 6th, 1870, Mühlbauer was awarded the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Military Merit Order and the Iron Cross 2nd Class in the army order of 30th August 1870 . A chapter of the Military Max Joseph Order held at Chatenay near Paris on December 2, 1870, under the chairmanship of General Jakob von Hartmann , unanimously voted for Mühlbauer's admission to the order.
