Gustavo Gómez , full name Gustavo Raúl Gómez Portillo , (born May 6, 1993 in San Juan Bautista ) is a Paraguayan football player . He is used in the position of a central defender , alternatively he plays as a left or right defender. His strong foot is the right one.

Gómez won the national soccer championship in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Gustavo Gómez comes from the junior division of Club Libertad . Here he made the leap into the professional squad in 2011. Gómez played his first game in the Primera División (Paraguay) on May 2, 2015. In the home game against Tacuary FC , he was substituted on in the 75th minute. In 2012 Gómez was able to win his first title. With Libertad he won the Clausura 2012 . He scored his first goal in the league a year later after establishing himself as a regular in the 2013 season. In the home game against Sportivo Carapeguá on May 27, 2013 he scored in the 47th minute the goal to lead 1-0 (2-0). Another highlight of the year for Gómez was his debut at international club level. With Libertad he met on August 1, 2013 in the Copa Sudamericana 2013 in the first round of the competition on Montevideo Wanderers FC . Gómez also scored two goals in the tournament. The first of these on September 26, 2013 at home in the first leg of the last 16 against Sport Recife . In the 10th minute he achieved the 1-0 lead (2-0). The 2014 season started again successfully for Gómez, with Libertad winning the 2014 Apertura . Here he contributed four goals in 20 games. After this success, Gómez Libertad left for Argentina .

His new home was the CA Lanús . Even before the end of the Apertura, the club announced that Gómez would change when it ended. The club took over 50% of the transfer rights to Gómez.

His debut at Lanús was disappointing . In July 2014 the games for the Recopa Sudamericana took place. In the second leg against Atlético Mineiro , Lanús managed to take the 2: 3 lead in the 4th minute of stoppage time and thus achieve extra time. In this Gómez caused an own goal in the 103rd minute. Another of his teammates Víctor Ayala lost the game for good. Gómez made his debut in the Primera División (Argentina) on August 13, 2014. In the home game against CA Belgrano , the first matchday of the 2014 season, he was in the starting line-up. Gómez won the national championship with the club in 2016 . In July 2017, the interest of the league competitor Boca Juniors in Gómez became known. Instead, his move to Italy to AC Milan was announced in early August .

Gómez made his debut in the Italian Serie A in August 2016 . On the second match day of the 2016/17 season , on August 27, 2016, Milan met SSC Napoli away from home . Gómez was in the starting line-up in the game. The Supercoppa Italiana (football) was held on September 23, 2016 . Gómez was in the team's squad, but was not used when his club won. While he played 18 games during the season, he was only a reserve player without appearances under the new coach Gennaro Gattuso in the following 2017/18 , but was allowed to play one game in the UEFA Europa League . Milan met Austria Wien in the group stage on November 23, 2017 . In the game, Gómez came on in the 80th minute when the score was 4-1.

In July 2018, Gómez should be transferred to Boca Juniors . However, this business failed. Instead, Milan was able to announce Gómez's one-year loan to Palmeiras São Paulo in early August 2018 .

Gómez played the first game in the Brazilian Série A on matchday 18 of the 2018 season . On August 12, 2018, Palmeiras met the CR Vasco da Gama at home . Gómez made his debut here in the starting XI. That season, Gómez scored his first goal in the Série A. In the home game against Cruzeiro EC on September 30th. the 27th matchday, he scored in the 66th minute with a penalty to make it 3-1. With Palmeiras he was able to celebrate the championship at the end of the season. In 14 games he scored two goals. It was his third national title for a different association in South America.

National soccer team

Gustavo Gómez went through the youth teams of Paraguay. He has been part of the A selection since 2013. In the friendly against Germany on August 14, 2013, he was part of the team, but was not used. Gómez played his first appearance for the Guaraníes in the friendly against the selection of Costa Rica on March 5, 2014. In the game, Gómez was in the starting line-up and scored his first international goal in the 86th minute to make it 2-1 and the final score.
