The catchment area of the school includes the northern districts of Kiel and the surrounding communities of the Danish Wohld.
history
The grammar school was opened in August 1971 by the then Prime Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg . The first school building was only a temporary solution in which a new secondary school was to move. Construction of the actual school building did not begin until February 1972 and it was not completed until August 1973, after the gym was ready for occupancy in February 1973. A work by the artist Ernst Günter Hansing entitled "Interplanetary Eruption" was installed on the school premises under the roof of the forum. As part of a roof renovation, a new glass roof was installed in 2012. The artwork that previously hung under the roof had to be removed in the course of the renovations.
