Karl Håkan Södergren (born June 14, 1959 in Rosersberg ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach .

Career

Håkan Södergren began his career as an ice hockey player at Djurgårdens IF , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien , the top Swedish division, in the 1977/78 season . With Djurgården, the winger won the Swedish championship title at national level in 1983, 1989, 1990 and 1991 respectively . In 1990 he and his team also won the European Ice Hockey Cup . He himself was awarded the guldpucken as Sweden's player of the year in 1987 . In 1986, 1987 and 1988 he was also elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. Most recently, the two-time Olympian ran for the Huddinge IK in the second-rate Division 1 in the 1991/92 season , before ending his career at the age of 33.

In his honor, his jersey number 22 was banned by Djurgårdens IF and will no longer be given to any other player.

In the 2011/12 season Södergren coached the U19 juniors of Lørenskog IK from Norway.

International

For Sweden , Södergren took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1977 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 1979 . At the U18 European Championship in 1977 he won the gold medal with his team and the bronze medal at the U20 World Cup in 1979.

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1983 , 1985 , 1986 , 1987 and 1989 . He also represented Sweden at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and in 1988 in Calgary and 1987 in the Canada Cup . He and his team won bronze at the 1984 and 1988 Winter Games, silver at the 1986 World Cup and gold at the 1987 World Cup.
