Hélio Gonçalves Heleno (born May 18, 1935 in Cipotânea , Minas Gerais , Brazil , † September 4, 2012 in Caratinga ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Caratinga .

Life

Hélio Gonçalves studied philosophy (1955/57) and theology (1958/61) at St. Joseph Seminary in Mariana and received on 3 December 1961 in the Mariana ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Caratinga on November 27, 1978 . The Archbishop of Mariana , Oscar de Oliveira , donated him the episcopal ordination on February 22, 1979 in Rio Pomba ; Co- consecrators were José Goncalves Heleno , Bishop of Governador Valadares , and his predecessor José Eugênio Corrêa . His episcopal motto was "Propter Regnum Dei" (Because of the Kingdom of God).

He was involved in the regional council of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB) for the laity (Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais) and was a member of the pastoral committee of the regional conference .

Pope Benedict XVI took his age-related resignation . on February 16, 2011.
