José Eugênio Corrêa

José Eugênio Corrêa (born May 30, 1914 in Lima Duarte , Minas Gerais , Brazil ; † January 28, 2010 in Juiz de Fora , Minas Gerais, Brazil) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Caratinga .

Life

José Eugênio Corrêa studied philosophy at the seminary of Mariana from 1936 to 1937 . From 1937 to 1941 he studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and received on 26 October 1941 in Rome the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Juiz de Fora . He was then pastor of the Cathedral of Juiz de Fora from 1942 to 1945, and from 1943 to 1945 clerical assistant of the Catholic Action . From 1946 to 1947 he was rector of the boys' seminary of Juiz de Fora, then pastor of Rio Preto.

On August 19, 1957 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed Bishop of Caratinga . The episcopal ordination received his Justino José de Sant'Anna , Bishop of Juiz de Fora, on 10 November 1957; Co- consecrators were Othon Motta , auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro , and Rodolfo das Mercês de Oliveira Pena , bishop of Valença . His motto was "Omnibus Omnnia".

As a council father, he took part in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . From 1964 to 1978 he was chairman of the board of trustees of the Faculty of Philosophy in Caratinga. From 1971 to 1972 he completed postgraduate studies in philosophy at the Academia Santo Tomá and the Don Bosco faculty in São João del Rei.

On November 27, 1978, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
