The diocese Valenca ( Latin Dioecesis Valentina in Brasilia , Portuguese Diocese de Valença ) is a in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Valenca in the state of Rio de Janeiro .

history

The diocese was founded on March 27, 1925 by Pope Pius XI. built from cessions of territory of the diocese of Barra do Piraí and subordinated to the archbishopric of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan . On March 26, 1960, the Diocese of Valença gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Nova Iguaçu .
