Högl is a district and a district of the municipality of Anger in the Upper Bavarian district of Berchtesgadener Land and was an independent municipality until 1978.

history

Settlement of the Högl goes back to the most recent Stone Age; On the ridge, on the left bank of the Saalach , there are finds such as bronze swords, axes and urns, but also remains of Roman buildings.

The early Bavarian place names around Anger ending in the syllables “-ing” and “-ham” indicate that the Högl was settled by the Bavarians in the early Middle Ages.

Högl belonged as part of the Rupertiwinkel , after it came to the Kingdom of Bavaria, from 1811 to 1818 to the Teisendorf Regional Court , then to the Reichenhall Regional Court . In 1862, justice and administration were separated in Bavaria. The higher-level administrative authority for the municipality of Högl was the newly created Berchtesgaden district office , which included the districts of the Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden regional courts . In 1938, as in the whole of the German Empire, it was renamed the district, so Högl was now in the Berchtesgaden district . In 1972, the Berchtesgaden district was added to the newly formed Bad Reichenhall district, which was renamed the Berchtesgadener Land district in 1973 .

The district court of Reichenhall was responsible for judicial matters until 1879, then the district court (Bad) Reichenhall until 1972 . Since its dissolution in 1973, the community of Anger and thus the town of Högl has belonged to the district of the Laufen district court .

The community last consisted of the parts Hainham , Kleinhögl , Lebloh , Moosbacherau , Oberhögl , Prasting , Steinhögl , Thal and Vachenlueg . On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality with the exception of the Kleinhögl district, which was incorporated into Piding, was incorporated into the municipality of Anger.

About 50 meters as the crow flies from the highest point of the ridge, at about 778  m above sea level, is the Högl transmitter of Deutsche Telekom , which also broadcasts Austrian television channels. The 157 m high mast is the tallest structure in the Berchtesgadener Land district.
