Haaren is the family name of a German-Baltic noble family. The family belonging to the ancient nobility had lived in Courland and Lithuania since the middle of the 17th century . Their ancestors are said to come from the Osnabrück area, although this cannot be clearly proven . The Baltic lineage begins in a document with Christopher Otto Alexander von Haaren († 1745). The aristocratic family was predominantly characterized by landowners and state officials .

history

The search for the origin of the German-Baltic “von Haaren” is linked to the “von Horne” documented from around 1200 to 1550. They were ministerials of the Counts of Tecklenburg and the bishops of Osnabrück and Paderborn and appeared several times as witnesses for the noblemen of the Lippe . They authenticated with a seal on which two horns placed in the St. Andrew's cross were depicted. The origin of the "von Horne", with the crossed horns, is likely to be the peasantry Hörne ( Hörne ) near Osnabrück . The von Horne family once had their ancestral home in what is now Harenburg near the Johanniter - Kommende Lage . The Harenburg was still called Horneburg in 1589 and after 1580 the Horne family soon called themselves Haren. In the coat of arms of the Westphalian nobility, a total of three families are named with the name Haaren.
