history

Hackneyed was founded in 2006 by Philipp Mazal (vocals) and Tim Cox (drums). Shortly afterwards, guitarist Lydia and bassist Felix Papp joined the band. With this line-up they played their first gig, after which Lydia left the band due to health problems. Because the band found a bassist in Alex Büttner while looking for a guitarist, the previous bassist Felix Papp switched to guitar. Soon the then 14-year-old Devin Cox completed the band as the second guitarist. This was followed by festival appearances with Debauchery , End of Green and Fear My Thoughts , where record manager Achim Ostertag became aware of the band.

After the debut album Death Prevails was completed in July 2008, Ostertag sent it to various labels, including Nuclear Blast , which Hackneyed finally signed. The first appearance at the Summer Breeze Festival followed in August 2008 .

In the spring of 2009, Felix Papp left the band and was replaced by Kevin "Juan" Sierra, with whom they recorded the second studio album Burn After Reaping . It was released in August 2009. The band also played at the With Full Force Festival.

In June 2010 the band announced the departure of Alex Büttner, who was replaced by bassist Martina "Tini" Wuttke. Then the band played at the Wacken Open Air . The band has been working with the Lifeforce Records label since March 2011 . About this the third album Carnival Cadavre was released in August 2011 . At the end of 2011 the band separated from Juan and Tini. In 2012, Fabian and Philipp Fink from their friendly band Necrotted joined the band. In the same year various festivals were played, they went on tour with Arch Enemy and made their first appearance in the USA on the Barge To Hell .

At the beginning of 2013 it became quiet around Hackneyed, as the band withdrew to write new songs for their fourth album, which was recorded in early 2014 in the recording studio in Würzburg together with Nikita Kamprad ( Der Weg einer Freiheit ). In the summer of 2014 the band made their live comeback, including a. on the Summer Breeze . In May 2015 the new album Inhabitants Of Carcosa was released on the band's own label CoMa Tone Records , which was released on a CD release tour with the befriended band Necrotted . In the summer Hackneyed also played at some festivals, such as Out and Loud or Summer Breeze .

On October 1st, 2016 Hackneyed played their official farewell concert in Aalen with the support of the bands Undertow, Skeleton Pit, Scarsign and Dawn of Dreams .

style

Hackneyed played more old-school death metal on their debut album , but on Burn After Reaping the melody predominates in death metal . The band established this style with Carnival Cadavre .

Singer Philipp Mazal only uses guttural singing .
