The Hagenbach is a right tributary of the Danube in Lower Austria . It rises near the district of Steinriegel in the market town of St. Andrä-Wölker and flows into the Danube not far from the Greifenstein power station on the Danube. The course of the stream created the Hagenbachklamm , which is popular with hikers and is largely located in the Eichenhain Nature Park .
history
30,000 years ago the Hagenbach turned east in today's Hagental and formed the upper reaches of today's Kierlingbach . The valley in which today the Rambach runs via Gugging into the Kierlingbach and Klosterneuburger Straße (B 14) towards Klosterneuburg dates from these times . It was the deeper lying Danube that tapped the valley in St. Andrä, ensured the breakthrough of the Hagental and changed the course of the Hagenbach to the north.
In 1112, “Werdarin” (Wrogen), today's district of St. Andrä-Wölker, was founded along the lower course of the Hagenbach. The stream flowed directly through the center of the village until the beginning of the 19th century. After a regulation it now passes west of the center.
Todays situation
Risk assessments showed that the flood protection against 30- and 100-year floods is not sufficient; For this reason, various additional measures have been discussed since 2011, such as B. a dam in the Hagenbachklamm.
