The Hallburg is an Outbound hilltop castle on the 550 m above sea level. NN lying "Streitbichl" (formerly also: "Streitbühl") in Bayerisch Gmain in the district of Berchtesgadener Land . It was located above Gruttenstein Castle, which still exists today .
It consisted of a tower hill castle (Motte) and an earth ring wall system with wooden palisades and was first mentioned in 1144 as "castrum hall".
After Archbishop Adalbert von Salzburg destroyed the city of Reichenhall in 1196 and razed the Gruttenstein Castle, he built the Hallburg on the Streitbichl - within sight of the remains of Gruttenstein - to demonstrate his power over the city. The castle was repeatedly the place of issue of documents until it was destroyed in 1262 by the Bavarian Duke, who had rebuilt Gruttenstein in 1218.
From the oval former castle complex with an inner and outer ring wall, the last remains were removed around 1900 with the exception of small remains of soil. The Burgstall is now a ground monument .
The name Streitbichl does not come from the fact that there was a dispute about this Bichl (a hill), but because in earlier times the surrounding population collected the leaves there as litter in autumn . Over time, the Streubichl became today's Streitbichl.
