The Burgstall Vager , also known as Vogtturm , Fager , Vagera , is an abandoned hilltop castle south of the Bad Reichenhall district of Kirchberg in the Berchtesgadener Land district in Bavaria .

There were other castles in the vicinity; Kirchberg Castle was about 800 meters to the east . Another castle stable is located 550 meters to the west, and the Amerang tower ruins and the Karlstein castle ruins 1100 meters in this direction .

history

The castle was built in the second half of the 12th century by the lords of Vageras. These were first mentioned in 1177, they were ministerials of the Counts of Peilstein . Between 1211 and 1218 it became the property of the Archdiocese of Salzburg . In the middle of the 13th century the castle is known as … en hous heizzet Vager. mentioned in Enikels Fürstenbuch. Vager Castle was probably destroyed by Duke Heinrich XIII in 1262 at the same time as the Amerang and Kirchberg castles . The area then came to the Dukes of Bavaria. In 1752 a “Fagerer Gütl” is called again.

The former castle complex had a twelve-sided keep with a diameter of about 8.5 meters, which was discovered in 2001 through archaeological investigations. The Burgstall is now a ground monument .
