Haluk Güngör (born March 9, 1970 in Ankara ) is a former Turkish soccer goalkeeper and coach, who most recently worked as a goalkeeper coach for the Turkish national soccer team .

Player career

Güngör started professional football in 1990 at the then newly in the 1. Lig ascended Istanbul club Bakirköyspor . Here he sat in the first season, in which the club caused several surprises and finished the league in 6th place in the table, exclusively on the bench or played for the reserve team. After the second season for Güngör was the same, he made his professional debut in his third season for Bakırköyspor, in the 1992/93 season , in a league game against Karşıyaka SK . At the end of the season, his club rose again after three years of membership in the first division in the second league . Here Güngör immediately captured a regular place and played almost all of his team's games by the end of the season.

In the summer of 1994 he moved to league rivals İstanbulspor for a large fee . Istanbulspor was bought by the billionaire Cem Uzan at that time and tried to move up to the 1st league by buying stars and talents and then to create a powerful competition to the three big Istanbul clubs Galatasaray Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul . In this context, Güngör was also bought as a very promising talent at the time. At his new club he was immediately included in the starting line- up by his coach Kadri Aytaç . At the end of the season, Güngör celebrated the runner-up in the second Turkish division with his club and thus, after 24 years of abstinence, promotion to the first division. Aytaç was promoted to the 1st league and was replaced by Leo Beenhakker , which meant that Güngör also lost his regular place. He played for Istanbulspor for the next nine years and, apart from the 1999/2000 season , in which he played all of his team's league games, he was more of a reservist.

After the Uzan family withdrew their financial commitment in 2001, the club no longer had enough money to stay in the top Turkish football league in the long term. In 2003 it went bankrupt and the state took over the insolvent association. Güngör started the 2003/04 season at Istanbulspor, but moved to the second half of the season for the second division Kayseri Erciyesspor after he was not used in the first half of the season . Here he became a regular player straight away and rose to the end of the season as a runner-up in the 2nd division in the 1st division. After the promotion, the club exchanged the naming and competition rights with the second division side Kayserispor and played again in the TFF 1st division for the next season. So Güngör played second class again. Here they reached third place in the table at the end of the season and rose again to the Süper Lig.

In the summer of 2005 Güngör left Erciyesspor and returned to his old club İstanbulspor . With this, meanwhile in the TFF 1st league, he played for a long time for promotion to the Süper Lig , but ultimately missed it.

After a year he left Istanbulspor and hired the city and league rivals Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . The main reason for this move to Istanbul BB was its head coach Abdullah Avcı . Güngör had played several seasons with this in his first time at Istanbulspor. Moved to Istanbul BB, he mostly sat on the bench during the first half of the season and only gained a regular place in the second half of the season. At the end of the season he and his team celebrated the runner-up in the TFF 1. Lig and thus the first ascent in the club's history to the Süper Lig . Promoted to the top Turkish league, he lost his regular place again and made six appearances this season. In the summer of 2008 he ended his active football career.

Coaching career

Following the end of his active football career, he moved to his last club, Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor, and took over the post of goalkeeper coach.

After working in this position for three and a half years, he and his head coach Abdullah Avcı moved to the Turkish national football team at the end of 2011 . While Avcı took over the post of national coach from Guus Hiddink , Güngör became his goalkeeper coach. In mid-August 2013, Avcı resigned from his position. His successor, Fatih Terim , selected Alper Boğuşlu as the new goalkeeper coach, which Güngör also had to cease serving with the national team.
