Reiter attended the ski school in Bad Gastein and trained as a retail salesman . In November 1996 he contested his first FIS race . In 1998 he was included in his age group Austrian junior champion in combination and in the squad of the ÖSV . In February 2000 Reiter took part in the Junior World Championships in the Canadian province of Quebec and finished 15th in slalom. In December of the same year he won his first FIS race, the giant slalom of Marguns . He celebrated his greatest success at the 2001 World Junior Championships in Verbier by winning the giant slalom in front of his compatriot Hans Grugger .
From the 2001/02 season Reiter was also successful in the European Cup . On January 7th, 2002 he finished in the top three in the first giant slalom in Kranjska Gora , and the day after he celebrated his first victory in the second giant slalom. Four days later he also came on the podium in Oberjoch and at the end of the season he finished fourth in the giant slalom classification. In February he had his first start in the World Cup in the giant slalom in St. Moritz , but he could not finish the race. In April 2002 he became Austrian champion in giant slalom.
Riders also achieved several European Cup podium places in winter 2002/03 . At the beginning of the 2003/04 season , Salzburg won the two giant slaloms in Ål, Norway . With another two podium places, he reached third place in the giant slalom ranking and thus made the leap into the world cup team of the ÖSV. In the World Cup, however, Reiter had no success, he did not reach the second round in any race during the entire 2004/05 season. In the European Cup he came fourth three times this winter. In the following season, Reiter competed in two more World Cup races, but never made it to the second round. After a serious fall in the giant slalom in Adelboden on January 7, 2006, he had to end the season prematurely.
In the following years Reiter was no longer used in the World Cup, but in the European Cup he no longer achieved his previous performances. After two relatively unsuccessful seasons in which he was only three times in the top 15 in the European Cup, he ended his career in 2008.
