action
Hannibal , the great Carthaginian general, crossed the Alps with his warriors to attack Rome . In order to unsettle the Romans, Hannibal takes Sylvia, the daughter of a senator, prisoner. Hannibal shows her his army and releases them in the hope that she will tell the Romans about it and that they will be intimidated by it. However, Sylvia does not fulfill her mission: she has fallen in love with Hannibal and is returning to him. Both are caught by a Roman patrol, Hannibal escapes, but Sylvia is captured and banished. Hannibal frees them and moves with his army against Rome in order to overwhelm the Romans. Suddenly Hannibal's real wife appears and Sylvia flees to Rome, where she is arrested and sentenced to death.
background
Hannibal is the first film in which both Bud Spencer (Carlo Pedersoli) and Terence Hill (Mario Girotti) - each still using their real names, the English pseudonyms were first created in 1967 when God forgives ... Django never! - played. Pedersoli only has a minor role as tribal leader Brutario, who negotiates with Hannibal about the passage through his lands and its price, and is barely recognizable under the extensive costumes.
Reviews
"An adventurous, painterly picture arc, laid out as an elaborate, but disarmingly naive show painting."
