Hanns Maier

Hanns Maier (born August 13, 1922 in Rottenburg an der Laaber ; died July 18, 2016 ) was a German building contractor .

Life

Maier studied at the Technical College in Munich and the German Technical University in occupied Prague . During the Second World War he was employed as a civil engineer. In 1945 he and his siblings joined their parents' construction company, which was founded in 1919. Maier began additional architecture studies at the Technical University of Munich in 1948 . In 1965 he became a Doctor of Engineering PhD . In 1959 the headquarters of the company HAMA-Bau was relocated to Munich, which included various companies from the construction sector, hotels, a mineral oil trading company with its own filling stations and hydroelectric power stations. Together with Hans Kapfinger , he was the founder of the news magazine aktuell , a political counterpart to Spiegel that was later discontinued .

Maier was close to the CSU with party donations , and an investigative committee of the Bavarian state parliament was set up in March 1968 because of a sale of land in the fort "Fort Haslang" near Ingolstadt . In 1984 Maier sued the federal government before the administrative court because the latter did not grant or had granted him sufficient protection against expulsion from Switzerland.

In 1966 the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg appointed Maier as Honorary Consul and in 1991 as Honorary Consul General ; he resigned from office in 2010. Maier received various state awards, such as the Bavarian Order of Merit , the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg , the Military and Civil Service Order of Adolph von Nassau and the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class .
