Hannu Pikkarainen (born October 13, 1983 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Hannu Pikkarainen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the HIFK Helsinki , for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga , the highest Finnish league, from 2002 to 2006 . In August 2005, the defender had signed a two-year contract with the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League , but was initially awarded by the Rangers to his home club HIFK for another year. For the 2006/07 season he was finally ordered to North America, but could not prevail there and played a total of only 21 games during the entire season for the New York farm teams , the Hartford Wolf Pack from the American Hockey League and the Charlotte Checkers from the ECHL in which he scored twelve points scorer.
From 2007 to 2009 Pikkarainen returned to HIFK Helsinki. He then moved to the Swedish Elitserien , where he spent the 2009/10 season at MODO Hockey as a regular player. With 43 scorer points, including eleven goals, in 50 games, he was able to recommend himself for a contract in the Continental Hockey League and was finally signed for the 2010/11 season by the Belarusian club HK Dinamo Minsk . After 16 KHL missions in three months, Pikkarainen was released from Dinamo in December 2010. Two days later he was again committed by MODO Hockey from the Elitserien, for which he played until the end of the season. For the 2011/12 season he moved to his league rivals Skellefteå AIK . After a year he moved back to Finland and joined the first division club TPS, where he completed the 2012/13 season. Then he went abroad again, played for the Croatian KHL representative Medvescak Zagreb , followed by an engagement at Leksands IF in Sweden.
He spent the 2014/15 season at his home club HIFK in the Finnish Liiga and after the end of the season he moved to the German Ice Hockey League . He signed a one-year contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings . After fulfilling this, he accepted the offer of another DEL club and signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters in May 2016 .
International
For Finland , Pikkarainen took part in three games on the Euro Hockey Tour in 2007 , where he and his team finished fourth and last.
