Hans-Alexander von Voss (born December 13, 1907 in Charlottenburg ; † November 8, 1944 in Heinersdorf ( suicide )) was a career officer and resistance fighter from July 20, 1944 . He belongs to a noble Voss family that was not objected to , and is said to be descended from the Voss family in the county of Mark .

Life

From 1918 he attended grammar school in Berlin and graduated from high school in 1926. He then joined the 9th Infantry Regiment of the Reichswehr in Potsdam . In 1930 he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1933 to first lieutenant . In 1937 the general staff training followed at the Army War Academy in Berlin-Moabit . After completing his training at the academy, he found employment in the staff of Commander-in-Chief West , Erwin von Witzleben , through whom he made contact with the military resistance circles. His experiences during the attack on Poland and his pronounced piety are said to have induced him to act against the regime. On Adolf Hitler Voss was in 1940 at a parade on the Champs-Élysées perpetrate an attack with a rifle. But that did not happen because the date was canceled. In February 1943 Voss was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the general staff and from February 20 he was employed in the staff of the Army Group Center , which was led by Henning von Tresckow . He was also involved in the failed attempt on March 13, 1943 to kill Hitler with a bomb in his plane after his visit to Army Group Center in Smolensk .

His contacts with the July 20th conspirators were initially not discovered. In October 1944 he was transferred to the Führerreserve , and from November 1944 he was to be employed in the West as Chief of Staff of an Army Corps. But that didn't happen. On November 8, 1944, Hans-Alexander von Voss committed suicide at Heinersdorfer See due to information about the threat of arrest by the Gestapo . He wanted to protect his friends in particular.

Hans-Alexander Voss was the son of the later Lieutenant General Hans von Voss (* October 7, 1875 - December 6, 1966) and his first wife Ellen, née Lucas († 1918). He also had a sister Renate (* 1911). His mother died of the Spanish flu in late October 1918 . In 1920 his father married Eva Breithaupt widowed von Spangenberg (* April 18, 1880, † August 7, 1975). She was the cousin of Ellen Lucas . Voss had been married to Giesela von Stülpnagel , daughter of General Joachim von Stülpnagel , since August 1936 , and had three children with her, including Rüdiger von Voss , honorary chairman of the foundation on July 20, 1944 .
