Hans-Jürgen Eberhardt (born August 15, 1958 in Worms ) is a Roman Catholic prelate . He is cathedral capitular .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hans-Jürgen Eberhardt did his military service in the armed forces and then studied mathematics and Catholic theology at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz with the aim of teaching. After completing his studies, he worked as a state teacher in these subjects at vocational schools in Mainz for four years. Eberhardt received on 9 July 1988 by the Bishop of Mainz Karl Lehmann , the ordination .

His chaplain positions were in the parish Corpus Christi in Reinheim and St. Andreas in Groß-Bieberau . Eberhardt was appointed pastor of the Catholic university community in Darmstadt in 1990. In 1996 further tasks were added. He administered the parish of St. Ludwig (Darmstadt) for six months and was appointed chairman of the Caritas Association Darmstadt as successor to Werner Guballa . Three years later, Hans-Jürgen Eberhardt was appointed to the episcopal ordinariate as the department head for Caritas and social work and was appointed chairman of the Caritas association for the diocese of Mainz. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed Chapter of Honor by Bishop Karl Lehmann .

Eberhardt was given the papal honorary title Monsignore by Pope John Paul II in 1999 , and in 2008 he was given the title of Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI. awarded the title of Papal Honorary Prelate . He has held the office of resident cathedral capitular since 2001.

He is involved in numerous social projects and the Christians in the Holy Land . He is a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 2012 he was appointed Knight of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Pro-Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien and invested in the Jesuit Church of St. Michael in Munich on May 12, 2012 by Reinhard Cardinal Marx , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

On May 20, 2016, Prelate Eberhardt was elected by the Mainz Diocesan Assets Management Council as the diocese economist for the period of the vacancy of the Holy See of Mainz .

On May 23, 2018, the diocese of Mainz announced that Eberhardt would take over the management of the personnel department on September 1, 2018 and hand over the management of the Caritas and Social Work department.
