Hans-Joachim Bittrich

Hans-Joachim Bittrich (born June 1, 1923 in Dresden ; † December 9, 2010 in Merseburg ) was a German chemist and university professor . From 1964 to 1968 he was rector of the technical college "Carl Schorlemmer" Leuna-Merseburg .

Life

Bittrich, the son of an employee, graduated from high school in 1941 and was then drafted into the army for military service.

From 1946 to 1951 he studied chemistry at the University of Leipzig and in 1954 with a thesis on causticisation of sodium sulfate doctorate . From 1955 he worked as a university lecturer at the University of Chemistry in Leuna-Merseburg. From 1958 to 1960 he was senior assistant and prorector , from 1960 lecturer .

In 1961, Bittrich received his habilitation with a thesis on the calculation of the phase equilibria of ternary vapor-liquid systems and was then appointed professor of physical chemistry . 1963/64 he was dean and from 1964 to 1968, as the successor to Rolf Landsberg , rector of the Technical University "Carl Schorlemmer" Leuna-Merseburg. In this office he was succeeded by Hans-Heinz Emons . At the same time he was a member of the SED district leadership in Halle from 1964 to 1969 .

From 1969 to 1974 and from 1985 to 1988 Bittrich was again dean. He retired on June 1, 1988 .

From 1969 to 1975 he was, as the successor to Hans Singer , chairman of the Chemical Society of the GDR and then from 1975 to 1988 its honorary member.

Bittrich lived in Merseburg until his death in 2010.
