Hans-Joachim Döring (born September 15, 1954 in Dahlen (Saxony) ) is a German religious educator who has worked in the fields of development cooperation, the environment and sustainability and was shaped by the conciliar process .

Professional training and activity in the GDR

After completing school as a geology specialist with high school diploma in Johanngeorgenstadt and Leipzig in 1973, Hans-Joachim Döring wanted to study geology, hydrology or biology. Since he was denied this, he studied Protestant child and youth work in Moritzburg near Dresden from 1975 to 1979 and graduated as a religious educator.

From 1980 to 1986 he worked as a youth deacon at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. During this time he and Günter Johannsen founded the peace and Monday prayers in the Nikolaikirche in the autumn of 1982 . During this time, Döring also dealt with literature. In 1980 he was awarded a poetry prize at the Poetenseminar in Schwerin and shortly thereafter was banned from publishing. In 1982 he was enrolled at the Leipzig Literature Institute and de-registered in the same year.

Development policy engagement in an ecumenical context

Hans-Joachim Döring's professional life is closely linked to the conciliar process for justice, peace and the integrity of creation . From 1987 to 1996 Döring was managing director of the ecumenical network INKOTA in Berlin . INKOTA stands for INformation, KOordination, TAgungen on problems in the two-thirds world . The network was founded by people and groups from around Lothar Kreyssig and the Action Group for the Hungry in Halle in 1971 under the motto “A start against world poverty”. Until reunification, the network was affiliated with the Federation of Evangelical Churches in the GDR in Berlin. The network is the publisher of "INKOTA Brief - The North-South Magazine". From 1985 to 1987 Döring was a member of the continuation committee "Peace Concrete", the union of system-critical grassroots groups in the vicinity of the churches.

Due to his commitment to development, Döring was appointed as a consultant to the preparatory committee "One Hope Learns To Walk" in 1987 and then in 1988/1989 as a participant in the Ecumenical Assemblies (ÖV) for justice, peace and the integrity of creation in Dresden and Magdeburg . These assemblies were part of the worldwide conciliar process. At the public transport, Hans-Joachim Döring helped shape the resolutions in the area of ​​"Living in solidarity - an answer to global structures of injustice". Hans-Joachim Döring's work is shaped by his desire to provide applied orientation in the challenges of global conflicts such as the North-South conflict and the human-nature conflict. Since 2004 he has been the representative of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM) for the KED. In 2008 he became chairman of the board of the ecumenical development cooperative Oikocredit - Central Germany (Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt). Oikocredit is an international cooperative that pursues the goal of promoting development by granting microcredits in developing countries. Oikokredit goes back to an initiative of the World Council of Churches in 1968.

In 2009, Hans-Joachim Döring founded the Lothar-Kreyssig-Ökumenezentrum (LKÖZ) of the EKM in Magdeburg and headed it until 2014. In 2009 he also became the environmental officer of the EKM and until 2020 headed the department of environment and church development service in the LKÖZ. The task of this department is to support the churches and Christian communities in coping with the challenges faced by the vulnerability of many people in developing countries and the injuries to large parts of nature, and to stimulate dialogue between church and society in the areas of sustainable development.

Döring was a member of the national synod of the EKM from 2009 to 2014 and headed the social ethical committee for public affairs.

From 2010 to 2016 Döring was also a member of the Chamber for Sustainable Development of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD).

He moderated the process for the revitalization of the "Dornburger Alten Elbe ", the largest floodplain in Germany - on behalf of the state capital Magdeburg and the federal board of the BUND ( Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany ).
