Hans-Martin Heinemann studied theology and church music in Frankfurt am Main and Marburg . While still a student, he completed training on the organ , after completing his vicariate from 1977 to 1979 in Lehrbach and Erbenhausen . His first pastor was the Stephanuskirche in Wiesbaden in 1979 . From 1982 to 1990 he worked as a youth pastor in the spa town . "During this time he initiated central youth services, developed the partnership work with GDR youth pastors" and taught at the same time at various upper levels in Wiesbaden.

During his time as a youth pastor, Heinemann also made his first experiences in the city of Hanover: During the German Evangelical Church Congress in 1983, he organized a "bedtime meeting" for four days with his Hanoverian youth pastor colleague Walter Lampe and 60 volunteers . Two years later, Hans-Martin Heinemann met his future wife, Edeltraud Glänzer , who was born in Hanover, in front of the Marktkirche in Hanover in 1985 .

In 1991 Heinemann was first deputy, then in 2000 full-time dean in Wiesbaden. In this leading position, he was responsible for 80 pastors and around 30 other employees in over 43 parishes.

In March 2010, Heinemann was elected as the new city superintendent in Hanover as the successor to Wolfgang Puschmann , opposite his competitor Pastor Bernd Schwarze from Lübeck .

At the beginning of his leading position in Hanover, Heinemann declared resolutely that he wanted to “challenge the people in the pending processes, but also take them with him” in the face of the need for reform and concentration in the Hanoverian church congregations with around 210,000 members. In the event of mergers or even demolition of surplus church buildings, the people's “grief processes” would have to be taken seriously.

Heinemann also mentioned interfering in public debates and looking for contact with associations , parties and companies as a further goal .

Hans-Martin Heinemann is chairman of the Marktkirche cultural foundation and deputy chairman of the Friends of the International Choir Center Christ Church Hannover eV .

Hans-Martin Heinemann has three children.
