Hans-Otto Kröner

Hans-Otto Kröner (born May 20, 1928 in Lübeck ; † October 31, 2015 in Trier ) was a German classical philologist . From 1970 to 1995 he was Professor of Classical Philology (especially Latin Studies ) at the University of Trier .

Life

Hans-Otto Kröner studied Classical Philology at the University of Marburg and was awarded a doctorate there on November 10, 1952. phil. doctoral thesis with the unprinted work Die "Dirae" of the Appendix Vergiliana . After the first state examination in Latin and Greek, he worked from October 1, 1953 to September 30, 1960 as an assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich and wrote articles for the volumes VII 1 and VII 2 (letter I).

In 1969 , Kröner qualified as a professor at Saarland University with the unprinted text Investigations on Cicero's letters of recommendation in the field of Classical Philology and gave an inaugural lecture entitled Elegisches Storm . In the following year he accepted a chair for classical philology (especially Latin studies ) at the newly founded University of Trier . In Trier, Kröner worked alongside Professor of Greek Studies Leif Bergson for 25 years, and together with him he expanded the Department of Classical Philology at the university. In 1995, Kröner retired .

Kröner's research focus was the ancient Latin literature , especially Roman poetry and rhetoric . He wrote numerous essays and lexicon articles, including several additions to Pauly's real encyclopedia of classical antiquity .
