Hans-Peter from Ah

Hans-Peter von Ah (born June 24, 1941 in Sachseln ; † October 16, 2011 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss sculptor and painter . He mainly created sculptures and sculptures , also as art in architecture. In addition, he made watercolors , drawings and designed mosaics . Many of his works of art are placed in public spaces. From 1966 to 2006 he was a subject teacher at the high school for design in Lucerne .

Life

Hans-Peter von Ah completed an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor and also attended the Lucerne School of Applied Arts as an intern . From the end of 1960 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Fritz Wotruba , where he received a recognition award in 1963 and graduated in 1965 with a diploma as an academic sculptor. In the winter semester of 1963/1964 he had a teaching position at the Lucerne School of Applied Arts, from 1966 to 2006 he was a specialist teacher there.

Until 1974 he was looking for an independent approach to the subject of the human figure with abstracting torsos . In a second phase, he cast the base colors in polyester. In the summer of 1975 he traveled to Tuscany , where he created alabaster sculptures and paraphrased them in watercolors. Then he settled in the hamlet of Stuben in Ebikon . In 1975 he was commissioned to design the square for the new canton school in Zug . This triggered a reorientation towards art in public space.

From 1987 onwards, von Ah designed numerous choir rooms in Catholic churches with liturgical furniture, movable objects and also the concept of floor drawings and steps.

Three 20-franc commemorative coins designed by Ah : 2001: Müstair Monastery , 2002: St. Gallen Monastery and 2005: Lucerne Chapel Bridge .

Memberships

Von Ah was a member of the Federal Art Commission from 1984 to 1996 and vice-president of the Lucerne Art Society from 1991 to 2002, of which he was interim president in 1994/195. From 1988 to 1995 he was a member of the board of the Schweizerischer Werkbund (SWB), local group Central Switzerland, as well as a member of the Society of Swiss Painters and Sculptors (GSMBA) and of the Swiss St. Luke Society (SSL).

Exhibitions

His watercolor sheets with numerous sculptural and architectural studies have been presented at exhibitions at home and abroad, for example in 1975 in the Aargauer Kunsthaus Aarau, in 1975 at the Swiss sculpture exhibition in Biel, in 1994 in the National Museum in Gdansk and in the Kunstmuseum Olten.

Fabrizio Brentini's monograph lists 70 works that Ah created for public spaces between 1964 and 1996, including his 1991 plaza in front of the Cantonal Bank in Lucerne's city center.
