Hans Dressler

Hans Dressler (born April 5, 1869 in Breslau , Lower Silesia ; † April 28, 1943 there ) was a German painter and draftsman .

Life

Dressler was born the son of the painter and draftsman Adolf Dressler . He followed his father's profession and studied first with Albrecht Bräuer at the Royal School of Arts and Crafts in Breslau in 1885/86 , then from 1886 to 1891 at the Munich Academy with Karl Raupp , Johann Caspar Herterich the Elder. Ä. and Wilhelm von Diez .

In 1892 he returned to Breslau and ran his own painting and drawing school there. From 1922/1923 he ran a studio in the Wroclaw Zoo . Several trips took him to Italy , Hiddensee , the Curonian Spit , the Giant Mountains and Upper Silesia .

On October 5, 1922, he was awarded the 2nd Class Medal of Merit of the Kyffhäuserbund for his participation in the First World War .

His work includes numerous animal representations (animalist) and portraits . City views and landscapes were created under the influence of his father. He was also known for designing bookplates . Today, numerous works by Dressler are privately owned.
