Hans Gebhard Otto Ludwig Fritz von Kotze (born October 3, 1889 in Hanover , † October 12, 1942 in Bühlerhöhe ) was a German lieutenant general .

Hans Gebhard came from the noble von Kotze family . He was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Hermann von Kotze and his wife Agnes, née Wülbern (* 1867).

Military career

On February 27, 1908, Kotze joined the 1st Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 74 of the Prussian Army as an ensign and advanced to lieutenant after attending the Hersfeld War School at the end of January 1909 . With the outbreak of the First World War , he completed his pilot training in Gotha and worked for the air force until mid-June 1916 . Subsequently, Kotze came to the staff of General von Bernhardi as an orderly officer . From late July 1916 to early February 1917 he was employed as an orderly officer in the 92nd Infantry Division . In the meantime promoted to captain , Kotze took part in the fighting on the Western Front as a battalion leader in Infantry Regiment No. 437 . Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and the Friedrich August Cross as well as the Austrian Military Merit Cross III. Class with war decorations, after the armistice in December 1918 , Kotze joined the volunteer battalion "von Reichenbach" and later the Freikorps "Haase".

Kotze was then accepted into the Reichswehr and was a member of the Army Peace Commission. In the further course of his military career he was promoted to lieutenant general on October 1, 1940 during the Second World War . Kotze died in 1942 in the Hotel Bühlerhöhe , where he was relaxing.
