Hermann von Kotze

Hans Hermann Ludwig von Kotze (born July 14, 1851 in Brandenburg an der Havel , † April 30, 1925 in Blankenburg (Harz) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Hermann came from the von Kotze noble family . He was a son of the Prussian Colonel Ludwig von Kotze (1797-1882) and his second wife Adelheid, born von Jagow (1815-1887).

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps, Kotze was transferred to the 1st Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 31 of the Prussian Army on April 12, 1869 as porter ensign. In mid-November 1869 he advanced to secondary lieutenant , was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class during the war against France in 1870/71 and graduated from the War Academy in 1874/77 . As a prime lieutenant he was in command of the General Staff for a year and then served as a regimental adjutant until mid-October 1883. Insinuation à la suite Kotze was then adjutant of the 62nd Infantry Brigade in Strasbourg . In mid-February 1885 he became company commander in the 1st Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 74 . On May 20, 1893, Kotze was transferred to the Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 while being promoted to over tenacious major . From 1899 he was a lieutenant colonel staff officer in the grenadier regiment "King Friedrich I." (4th East Prussian) No. 5 in Danzig . With promotion to colonel , Kotze was appointed commander of the 5th West Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 148 in Stettin on January 27, 1902 . On February 13, 1906, he was initially commissioned to lead the 67th Infantry Brigade in Metz and on April 10, 1906, Kotze was appointed to be major general commander of this large unit . On the occasion of the festival of the order, he was awarded the star for the Order of the Crown, 2nd class in January 1909 , before he was put up for disposition on March 24, 1909 with the statutory pension in approval of his resignation request. A little later he was given the character of lieutenant general.

During the First World War , Kotze was reused as a ZD officer and commander of the 38th Landwehr Brigade on the Western Front .

Kotze married Agnes Wülbern (* 1867) on May 29, 1888 in Hanover. The following children were born from the marriage:
