Hans Lorenser

Hans Lorenser (born February 6, 1916 in Ludwigsburg , † July 18, 1989 in Ulm ) was a German politician.

Lorenser studied economics and graduated with a doctorate. Since 1954 he was the first mayor and head of the economic department of the city of Ulm and from 1964 to 1972 CDU - member of the state parliament in Baden-Württemberg.

From 1972 to 1984 he was Lord Mayor of Ulm - the first Catholic mayor since the Reformation.

As mayor of Ulm, Lorenser set accents in school construction with the Kuhberg education center , in the economic sector by relocating industrial companies to the Danube Valley and in the health sector with the establishment of the rehabilitation clinic and the affiliation of the city hospitals to the university. During his tenure, the Stadtwerke were converted into a GmbH.

From 1982 to 1983 he was also President of the German Hospital Society (DKG).

Appreciation

Like his wife Rosl († December 24, 2009) Lorenser was an honorary citizen of the city of Ulm . The city of Ulm named a street in the Donautal industrial area after him. The Hans-Lorenser-Sportzentrum in Stadionstrasse is also named after him. On the occasion of his 60th birthday in 1976 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.
