Hans Petri (officer)

Alfred Hans Petri (born September 23, 1877 in Berlin ; † May 5, 1945 in the Neuendorf camp , Steinhöfel ) was a German officer , most recently a general of the infantry in World War II .

Life

Petri was the son of a Prussian captain in the engineering corps .

After his education in the cadet corps on March 7, 1896, he joined the infantry regiment "Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands" (2nd Westphalian) No. 15 of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant .

During the First World War , Petri was awarded the highest Prussian bravery award, the Order Pour le Mérite , for his services as battalion commander in the 2nd Upper Rhine Infantry Regiment No. 99 on October 28, 1918 . In addition, Petri was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and the gold wound badge for a total of five wounds . After the end of the war he fought in a volunteer corps in Upper Silesia and joined the Reichswehr . There he worked in the Reichswehr Ministry and as a commander of the 8th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment in Frankfurt (Oder) . On September 30, 1931, he was awarded the character as a lieutenant general retired from active service.

Petri received the character of General of the Infantry on August 27, 1939 on the occasion of the so-called Tannenberg Day.

After the beginning of the Second World War, Petri was placed at the disposal of the army and served as commander of Division No. 402 from October 25, 1939 to January 31, 1940 . Subsequently transferred to the Führerreserve , he was briefly in command of the 272nd Infantry Division from June 7 to October 4, 1940, and was then given command of the 192nd Infantry Division. In this position, Petri received senior service as Lieutenant General on February 1, 1941. On April 1, 1942, he was transferred to the Fuehrer's Reserve with senior service as General of the Infantry, and on May 31, 1942 his mobilization provision was revoked. His ZV position was canceled on December 31, 1943.

Petri committed on 5 May 1945 arrest on 3 March 1945 by the occupation forces in the camp Neuendorf suicide . His daughter is the actress Ilse Petri .
