Hans Radeberg

Hans (Hanns) Radeberg († 1448 in Dresden ) was a civil servant, councilor and mayor who worked in Dresden in the 15th century .

Life

Hans Radeberg came from a bourgeois family from Dresden, who owned a large piece of land on Seegasse near the Altmarkt in 1404/07 . He himself is mentioned in 1412 as the owner of a garden in Altendresden . He also operated rafting on the Elbe.

Nothing is known about his training. In 1424 he was appointed town clerk and was responsible for drafting deeds and documents as well as keeping town books. In 1428 he gave up this office and moved to the city council. He elected him mayor for the first time in 1431. Radeberg had further terms of office in the years 1434, 1436, 1440 and 1443. In 1440 he was also hospital master and thus responsible for the administration of the hospitals and infirmaries subordinate to the council .

In addition to his council work, Hans Radeberg was also entrusted with important tasks by Elector Friedrich II . Among other things, the diplomatically experienced official traveled in February 1429 on behalf of Frederick to the governor of Lower Lusatia, Hans von Polenz , in order to persuade him to provide assistance against the threatening Hussite incursions .

In 1448 Hans Radeberg was re-elected mayor, but died before he took office. In his place, Johann Questwicz took over the office of the governing mayor. On his death, Radeberg left a will with the stipulation that "the proceeds of a field should generally be used for the stad baw" (that is, for municipal building projects), but the rest should be used for church charitable purposes. This decree was included in the Dresden city book in 1451.
