Johann "Hans" Baptist Sontheimer (born April 29, 1906 in Runggaditsch , Val Gardena , † September 12, 1981 in Dornbirn ) was a South Tyrolean painter and sculptor .

Life

Hans Sontheimer was the son of Josef Sontheimer, a barrel painter and gilder, who came to Val Gardena from Oberstetten in 1893 . The father married Theres, the daughter of Taddeo Oberbacher, a painter from Gadertal , in whose workshop he worked.

In Ortisei , Hans Sontheimer had his training at the “State Technical School for Drawing, Modeling and Carving” until 1924 with Adolf Keim and Ludwig Moroder .

In Munich he attended the evening class for nude and head drawing with Schlegel at the “Städtische Gewerbeschule” in Prankstrasse.

From 1924 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Hugo von Habermann and Olaf Gulbransson . Back at home he worked in the workshop of the sculptor Hermann Moroder, son of Josef Moroder Lusenberg .

In July 1942, Sontheimer had to emigrate to Dornbirn with his father, who was born in Germany, because he was not granted Italian citizenship. Sontheimer was an art teacher at the secondary school in Dornbirn and a specialist teacher at the trade school in Bregenz .

  • Fresco from 1933 on the Pana house in Ortisei, depicting St. Christopher
  • In 1938 he painted a 2 by 6 meter fresco at the “Art Exhibition” house in Ortisei, depicting the allegory of art. The fresco was plastered in 1972.
  • For the green church flag of St. Ulrich he painted two oil paintings, depicting Saint Ulrich and the Three Kings.
