Hans Watzek (born October 10, 1932 in Niemes , Czechoslovakia ) is a former German functionary of the DBD block party . He was Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Food Management in the GDR .

Life

The Watzeks family was relocated to the Soviet occupation zone in 1945 , Watzek worked in his parents' new farm. He completed an agricultural apprenticeship from 1946 to 1949, studied at the Technical College for Agriculture until 1952 and at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam until 1955 . Until 1962 he was an assistant in the MTS Ivenack and research assistant at the University of Agriculture in Bernburg (Saale) and until 1965 chairman of the LPG "12. Juli" in Brietzig . Hans Watzek joined the DBD in 1950 . Since 1963 he was a member of the DBD party executive , member of the People's Chamber and member of the district agriculture council Neubrandenburg , 1965–1989 director of the institute and scientific-technical center for agriculture of the district council. From 1969 he was chairman of the district committee of the National Front of the GDR and a member of the National Council of the National Front. From November 1989 to April 1990 Hans Watzek was Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Food in the government of Hans Modrow, succeeding Bruno Lietz . He was instrumental in preparing the legislation on the protection of GDR agriculture in the unification process and the declaration of guarantee of the Soviet Union for the preservation of the results of the land reform .

In March 1990 Watzek was re-elected as a member of the People's Chamber and then chairman of its committee on nutrition, agriculture and forestry. At the end of July he joined the SPD parliamentary group, but left it again in September 1990 and was from then on non-party.

Hans Watzek became a member of the PDS after the reunification and peaceful revolution in the GDR and was a member of the council of elders of the party Die Linke .
