Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of October 8, 1999 that the portrayal of Steve Zahn was particularly funny. That of William H. Macy seems calmer and more serious - his facial expressions carry scenes in which no dialogue would work.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was an "unoriginally staged independent comedy that uses the confrontation of alleged homosexuality with true homoerotic feelings only for laughter" and "once again presents the pure fool as an unreflected figure of identification" . The actors are "convincing" and provide "modest entertainment value" , but this cannot "hide the insignificance of the film" .

Steve Zahn won an award at the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and Mark Illsley was nominated for another award at that festival.

William H. Macy won the Golden Satellite Award in 2000 and Steve Zahn was nominated for the same award. Steve Zahn won the Independent Spirit Award in 2000 . William H. Macy was nominated for an American Comedy Award in 2000. Scarlett Pomers won the Young Artist Award in 2000 . Jeremy Northam won the London Critics Circle Film Award in 2000 .
