Harald Buchinger

Harald Buchinger (born August 2, 1969 in Vienna ) is a Catholic theologian and professor of liturgical science at the University of Regensburg .

Life

Harald Buchinger attended the public Schottengymnasium of the Benedictines in Vienna. After graduating, he studied Catholic theology at the University of Vienna . In the academic year 1990/91 he took part in the Ecumenical Academic Year Jerusalem Dormition Abbey. After completing his diploma in 1995, Buchinger became assistant to Hansjörg Auf der Maur at the Institute for Liturgical Studies in Vienna ; after his death he was deputy director of the institute from 2001 to 2004; 2004–2007 followed a research and study stay in Rome funded by the FWF .

Harald Buchinger was with a dissertation on the Passover in 2002 Origen sub auspiciis praesidentis rei publicae Dr. theol. PhD. In 2006 Buchinger completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna and one year later he became an associate professor for liturgical science and sacramental theology at the university there.

In 2008 he was appointed to the University of Regensburg , where he teaches and researches as a professor of liturgical science. From 2012 to 2013 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music , Visiting Professor at Yale University (Yale Institute of Sacred Music and Yale Divinity School) and Guest Fellow at Trumbull College. As a guest lecturer, Buchinger also taught a. a. in Jerusalem , Leuven , Klausenburg , Cologne, Groningen , Innsbruck and Lemberg . From 2013 to 2015 Buchinger was Dean of the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Regensburg. In 2015 the W2 professorship was elevated to a chair (W3) for liturgical science.

Harald Buchinger is also active as a lecturer and consultant in adult education , for which he was made an honorary member of the Friends of Theological Courses in Vienna.

Research priorities

Buchinger's scientific focus includes a. the liturgy in the patristic . In addition to his research on Origen's work, he examines the Jerusalem liturgy and its influence in East and West. Further fields of activity are the liturgy of the Easter festival group, the reception of the Bible, especially the Psalter , in Christian liturgy and theology as well as church music , especially Gregorian chant .

Buchinger has a degree in church music (C and B exams from Catholic church music) and cultivates the study of classical and oriental source languages ​​as the basis for research into the liturgy across all rites and religions.

Buchinger is a co-applicant and member of the DFG Graduate College 2337 “Metropolität in der Vormoderne” as well as the DFG College Research Group / Center for Advanced Studies 2770 “Beyond the Canon: Heterotopias of Religious Authority in Late Antique Christianity”. Since 2017 he has been director of the Institutum Liturgicum Ratisbonense - the liturgical science institute of the diocese of Regensburg .
