Harald Thomasius

Harald Thomasius (born August 5, 1929 in Bräunsdorf ; † November 24, 2017 in Kurort Hartha ) was a German forest scientist .

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a forest worker in the Fürstlich-Schönburg forestry office in Oberwald near Hohenstein-Ernstthal and working in the Glauchau forestry office , Thomasius attended the Tharandt forestry school , from 1949 worked as a district manager of the Oschatz district forestry office in Wermsdorf and also taught at the local forestry school. After further activities, including at the Saxon Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as obtaining the special maturity examination at the workers and farmers faculty in Dresden , Thomasius studied forest sciences at the Technical University of Dresden in Tharandt from 1954 to 1959 . In 1963, he did his doctorate on the subject of methodological studies on the possibility of quantitative location assessment with the help of growth functions . He was then a lecturer and from 1966 to 1968 lecturer for the basics of silviculture at the TU Dresden, Tharandt site . In addition, he was director of the Institute for Silviculture. In 1967, Thomasius completed his habilitation with the thesis Contribution to the theory and history of forest research .

From 1968 to 1992 he researched and taught as a professor of silviculture in the forestry section and the Tharandt department of forest sciences at the TU Dresden and was head of the research area (institute) silviculture and forest protection. He then worked productively in two companies until 1999.

Thomasius was the chairman of the Society for Nature and Environment, which was founded in 1980 in the Kulturbund of the GDR, and since 1984 has been an honorary doctor of the West Hungarian University of Sopron . Up until 2017, he published around 200 publications in Germany and abroad, mainly on modern and ecological silviculture , the welfare effects of the forest and the principles of forest management .
