Hard fist
Harte Faust was a German - Dutch - American FTX military maneuver in Lower Saxony in the fall of 1979.
Division of troops
Harte Faust was under the command of the 1st Corps . The following forces were assigned to the BLUE exercise force:

Referee service for BLUE was provided by the 7th Panzer Grenadier Division and for RED the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division and the 43rd NL-PzBrig. The management and referee service for Harte Faust was structured as follows:

- 7th Panzer Grenadier Division, Unna , for BLUE

scope
A total of 60,000 soldiers (including 6,000 reservists), 16,000 wheeled vehicles and 2,700 tracked vehicles were involved. The I. Corps was in charge of the exercise .
assignment
The following guidelines were issued by the commanding general for the Hard Fist exercise:
- All three types of operations - attack, defense and delay - should be practiced for all parties
- Each party should provoke open flanks as often as possible, so that the training force is forced to reconnaissance, security and connection
- Each party should be the subject or object of a major deception operation at least once
- Each party must be compelled to protect their rear territory by hunting combat
- Each party has to carry out at least one air landing, if possible at night
- Planning and implementation of a water crossing against the enemy
- Practice of encounter combat and detachment
- Marching movements to and from the training room and the battlefield are to be carried out according to warfare
The purpose of Harte Faust's exercise was leadership, combat and combat support of large units in all types of combat in cooperation with the territorial army.
procedure
Harte Faust took place from September 17th to 22nd, 1979 in the Emden , Wilhelmshaven , Lippstadt and Rheine area . FlAbwRakReg. 3 set up an Air Defense Operation Liaison Team (ADOLT) for the exercise leadership. The tank units were brought into the training area with a total of 220 rail transports during the deployment phase. The metropolitan area was near Meppen , Cloppenburg , Osnabrück , Rheine and Lingen . ROT attacked from the Emden / Leer area via the Jümme River and the coastal canal until the attack was stopped in the Freren area . The PzBrig 8 was trapped by US troops in the Bad Zwischenahn area . Bridges were built across the Hase and the Mittelland Canal . Air support for both sides was provided by 600 flights of Operation Cold Fire 79. The PzBtl 83 received the corps medal for the best operational leadership.
innovation
For the first time, the AUTOKO (automated corps master network) telecommunications system and the TALISSI laser-based meeting display device were tested in a practical test.
