Hartman's sedge ( Carex hartmanii ) is a species of the genus Sedge ( Carex ) within the sour grass family (Cyperaceae). It is common in the northern hemisphere .

description

Hartman's sedge is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. It forms long runners and grows loose grass . The leaves are grass green and pointed briefly. The basal leaf sheaths are brown to reddish brown and have fine reticulate fibers.

It belongs to the variety of sedges. The terminal spikelet is cylindrical and 15 to 35 mm long and up to 5 mm wide. It has mostly female flowers, only a few male flowers at the base. The three to five lateral spikelets are female, the upper ones are oval and shorter than the lower cylindrical ones. The upper spikelets are closer together. The lowest bract is about the same length as the inflorescence. The bract is dark brown, pointed and about as long as the fruit.

The fruit is 2 to 3 mm long, clearly veined, biconvex, rounded. It is green, papilose, hairless, at most a little rough. It suddenly changes into the short, two-toothed beak. The stamp has three scars .

Occurrence

The Hartmans Sedge is common in Europe to Central Asia. It is a submeridional-montane to temperate, subcontinental flora element . It grows in wet bog meadows and in silting communities by streams. She is a trim characteristic species of moor grass meadows (Molinietalia caeruleae). It thrives on wet to alternately wet, moderately nutrient-rich and base-rich, also low-lime, neutral to moderately acidic, peaty-humus loam or clay soils.

Taxonomy

Carex hartmanii was first published by Aimo Kaarlo Cajander . The specific epithet hartmanii honors the Swedish doctor and botanist Carl Johan Hartman (1790–1849).
