Hasso Freiherr Rüdt von Collenberg (born October 13, 1932 in Buchen , † May 5, 1968 in Saigon ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Hasso Rüdt von Collenberg studied law and political science at the Free University of Berlin , the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg , the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Paris I from 1952 to 1959 .

In 1955 he made his first and in 1961 his second state examination . In 1961 he joined the foreign service of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was accredited at the German embassy in Brussels . From 1963 to 1965 he was permanent representative of the ambassador in Yaoundé .

From October 1965 he was charge d'affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Saigon. End of March 1966 negotiated Hans Schmidt-Horix with the South Vietnamese Foreign Minister Tran Van Do the conditions under which the hospital ship Helgoland . At the beginning of April 1966, von Collenberg was replaced by the new ambassador Wilhelm Kopf , whom he placed in the modern Hotel Caravelle .

On May 5, 1968, Hasso Rüdt von Collenberg was taken out of his VW Beetle in the Cholon Chinese district of Saigon and shot in the head by Viet Cong fighters, whereupon Hans Schmidt-Horix was sent to Saigon as a special ambassador.
