Wagner grew up with two siblings as the son of the longest serving Hamburg senator and SPD politician Eugen Wagner in Finkenwerder in the Hamburg-Mitte district . He lives in the Eilbek district , is married to the deputy chairwoman of the SPD Eilbek Marisa Wagner. The couple have a son and a daughter together.
