The Heilig Kreuz Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in the East Westphalian town of Vlotho in the Herford district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The parish of Heilig Kreuz belongs to the pastoral area WerreWeser of the Dean's Office Herford-Minden in the Archdiocese of Paderborn . The church tower from 1907 is protected as an architectural monument.

history

The formerly oldest part of the Heilig Kreuz church was built between 1740 and 1741 in Rahlbruch, at that time still outside the city limits of Vlotho. This makes Heilig Kreuz the second oldest Catholic church in the Herford district. The first service was held on September 8, 1741. In 1869 the church building was expanded by adding a choir. In 1907 a church tower was added. Around 1970 the original church building was demolished, only the church tower remained. Between 1971 and 1972 a new, modern church building was erected according to the design by Bielefeld architect JG Hanke, which was inaugurated on December 3, 1972. Another new building was a parish center, which is directly attached to the church building and was completed in 1983.

Furnishing

The church has a late Gothic altar cross and a pietà , both from around 1450. An altarpiece depicting Christ's Descent from the Cross has been in the church's possession since 1743. The carved oak font of the church is designed in the Rococo style and probably older than the church. Two valuable books from the church, the “Minden Missale” and the “Mindener Agende”, both of which date from the early 16th century, are now kept in the Diocesan Museum in Paderborn .

The organ of the new church was built by Steinmann in 1976 . Parts of an old organ from 1805 were used. The slider chest instrument has 15 stops on two manuals and a pedal. The tractors are mechanical.
