Parish church of Seis

The Heilig Kreuz church is the Roman Catholic parish church of Seis am Schlern in South Tyrol . It belongs to the deanery Klausen-Kastelruth of the Diocese of Bozen-Brixen . The two parishes of Seis and Kastelruth work closely together and have a common pastor.

history

For the residents of Seis, the Maria-Hilf-Kirche was the old parish church for many years. As the number of believers steadily increased, the construction of the new, larger parish church on the village square according to plans by the architect Marius Amonn began in 1937 . The turmoil of war prevented rapid development. In 1950 the new church was consecrated.

The inside of the church

The church is a hall church with a roofed vestibule in the north, an apse in the southern part and a laterally offset bell tower in the southwest. It has a vault supported by wooden belts and is reminiscent of a keel-up ship. The triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir . There is a large wooden cross on the wall with the crucified Savior Jesus Christ and his mother Mary on his left and the apostle John on his right. To the left of the choir there is a wooden sculpture of the Immaculate Conception in a niche , to the right of St. Joseph.

The altar is made of wood and has a half-sculpture of a tree with two branches spread out. The ambo is also made of wood: the ears of wheat shown indicate that the word of God should bring fruit. The tabernacle is made of bronze. Jesus and the Emmaus disciples are modeled on the doors . The pulpit halfway up in the right nave is a relic from the early days of the Church before the Second Vatican Council and is no longer used thanks to the transmission systems.

The copper baptismal font is in a niche at the back left. Opposite, a depiction of the Sorrowful Mother from the 17th century can be seen in a niche . Mary holds her dead son on her lap.

The choir has two larger, arched double windows: Jesus on the cross on the left, Mariahilf on the right. The four large arched windows in the nave on the left (east side) date from 1995. They depict the Sermon on the Mount , Baptism , the Eucharist and marriage . The four small circular windows on the west side (right) and in the choir show the penance , the Confirmation , ordination and anointing of the sick

The two-manual organ on the gallery above the entrance area has 18 stops and was consecrated in 1993. It was built by the Johann Pirchner company from Steinach am Brenner .

Bells

The five bells of the church tower were consecrated on November 18, 1962 by the auxiliary bishop Heinrich Forer of the diocese of Trento . The bells have the tones es ', f', ges ', b', c ''. They were cast in the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck.

graveyard

The cemetery on the southern part of the church was laid out in 1993. It has a small chapel and is surrounded by a wall that secures the burial place towards the valley.
