history

Breitenbach is a branch of the original parish of Oberleichtersbach. The foundation of a local citizen from 1873/1883 made it possible for the first time to build a church in the village. In 1903, the architect Otto Schulz from Nuremberg was commissioned to build the church, which began in 1905. On June 18, 1906, the Würzburg bishop Ferdinand von Schlör inaugurated the church. In the years 1910 to 1914 the church was largely fitted out. Only the side altars were erected after the First World War . From 1982 to 1984 the church was restored.

description

The steeple with a pointed roof and four corner turrets (entrance hall in the basement) is in the south. The nave with barrel vault and the choir join north. The interior of the church is neo-Gothic . However, the church was painted in Art Nouveau style by the Würzburg painter Eulogius Böhler . The high altar is a winged altar . The Holy Family is depicted in its central panel, the flight to Egypt (left) and the Adoration of the Magi (right) in the side panels . The celebration altar and the ambo made of red sandstone are works by the sculptor Manfred Keßler from Stangenroth . On the left side altar - also a winged altar - one recognizes a Madonna with side figures of St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Margaret, on the right Heart of Jesus amidst the wounded and soldiers of the First World War. A copy of a crucifixion group by Tilman Riemenschneider is placed above the pointed choir arch . At the pulpit there are figures of the four evangelists . The Mount of Olives group on the west side of the church should also be mentioned. It is a copy of the Ölberggruppe by Tilman Riemenschneider in Heidingsfeld .
