Heiner Grub (born September 3, 1934 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German forester , politician and author . He was a member of the Tübingen district council for the SPD and treasurer of the Baden-Württemberg State Nature Conservation Association . He is the bearer of the Federal Cross of Merit .

Career

Heiner Grub is a great-grandson of Friedrich Grub . He grew up with his three brothers, Götz Grub, Volker Grub and Hermann Grub in Bermaringen . He first attended high school in the boarding school in Urspring , and passed his matriculation examination in Ludwigsburg in 1954. He then began studying forest science in Munich and Freiburg, which he completed in 1958 with a diploma examination. He did his doctorate under Julius Speer and Erich Preiser on the topic of critical examination of traditional forest profitability theory . He completed his legal clerkship in the service of the Baden-Württemberg state forest administration in November 1962 with the major forest state examination in Freiburg.

Activity as a forester

First he worked as an official administrator in the Maulbronn Forestry Office , then for four years as a forest judge in various forestry offices in the administrative district of North Württemberg. In 1967 he became a consultant at the Forestry Directorate. In September 1971 he took over the management of the Gschwend Forestry Office . In March 1977 he was appointed head of the timber sales, hunting and fishing department at the Tübingen Forest Directorate. In this capacity he took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of the Holzhof-Oberschwaben cooperative Bad Schussenried in spring 1977. In 1994 he switched to the silviculture and forest management department.

The main areas of activity were:

  • The development of new sales markets, especially for small spruce and storm wood in Austria, Italy and France.
  • The development of the small private forest with logging paths.
  • The regulation of hoofed game populations, with the aim of enabling the regeneration of near-natural mixed forests without protective measures against game bites. In order to achieve this, on Grub's initiative, the forest authorities were obliged to record the degree of game browsing and the protective measures taken in "forestry reports" and to forward them to the hunting authority responsible for determining the shooting. This procedure was introduced in the state hunts from 1979 in all hunting districts of Baden-Württemberg with the exception of the large private forest and was later adopted by other federal states.

He retired in September 1999.

Heiner Grub headed the excursion committee of the German Forest Association in the 1970s and organized excursions a. a. to Norway and Turkey.

He is one of the co-founders of the Ecological Hunting Association of Baden-Württemberg.

Political activity

In 1972 Grub joined the SPD and in 1973 founded the SPD local association in Gschwend. In 1975 he was elected chairman of the SPD district association Ostalb . In 1976 he ran for the state parliament in the Schwäbisch Gmünd constituency , but missed entry into parliament.

In 1979 he was elected to the Tübingen district council for 5 years . Following this, he largely withdrew from party work in order to devote himself to his professional activity. In retirement, he was again involved in the SPD working group 60-Plus, from 2007 to 2013 as chairman of the AG. During this time he organized events on topics of social and environmental policy as well as monument protection .

In retirement, he volunteered for the National Nature Conservation Association (LNV). From 2000 to 2012 he was treasurer of the association. During this time he initiated projects, including the end of the terrain media package , which was awarded the German Geography Media Prize in 2005. This was followed in 2009 by the short distances media package and finally in 2011 by the photo book LAND - Nature and Environment in Baden-Württemberg - a balance in pictures with aerial photos by the photographer Manfred Grohe. They show the beauty of cultural landscapes, but also their creeping destruction through the use of land for settlement and traffic.

In 2015, Grub was awarded the golden badge of honor by the State Nature Conservation Association for his services.

Activity as an author

During his work as a forester, Heiner Grub published numerous forest science texts.

Heiner Grub is involved in genealogical research and works on the chronicle of the Grub family , which his brother Volker Grub published for the first time in 2002.

In 2004 and 2006 he published the almost complete correspondence between his parents Lore and Hermann Grub from the beginning of the Second World War to the death of their father in April 1943 in Russia. The unique contemporary document attracted attention and can be viewed in the German Diary Archive in Emmendingen .

Awards

In 2019, Heiner Grub was awarded the Federal Republic of Germany's Medal of Merit . In the words of the laudators, Grub was largely responsible for ensuring that political decision-makers are aware of the finite nature of the space and the landscape.
