Heinrich Casimir I (born January 31, 1612 in Arnhem , † July 13, 1640 in Hulst ) was Count of Nassau-Dietz and governor of Friesland , Groningen and Drenthe .

Heinrich Casimir was the eldest son of Ernst Casimir von Nassau-Dietz (1573–1632) and Sophie Hedwig von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1592–1642).

Heinrich Casimir I was elected coadjutor of the Deutschordensballei Utrecht on August 3, 1619 and appointed Land Commander on April 3, 1620 . At that time Heinrich Casimir I was only eight years old. Therefore, his father and guardian Ernst Casimir I. von Nassau-Dietz took over the official business until the son came of age. From August 11, 1630, Heinrich Casimir I finally appeared personally as Land Commander.

After his father's death in 1632, Heinrich Casimir I became Count of Nassau-Dietz and succeeded him as governor of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. At that time Nassau-Dietz comprised the counties Katzenelnbogen , Vianden , Dietz and Spiegelberg , the dominion Bielstein and the barony Liesveld .

On July 4, 1640, Heinrich Casimir I was hit in the lower back by a pistol shot in the Battle of Hulst , fell from his horse and remained in the field for some time between the dead and dying soldiers. He was rescued and operated on, but died of the injury a few days later. He was buried in Leeuwarden . The pistol bullet and a piece of the removed bone are in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam .
