Caspar de Robles
Caspar de Robles (* 1527 ; † 1585 near Antwerp ), governor of Friesland , Overijssel , Groningen and Drenthe .
Life
He was a son of João Lopes de Robles and Dona Maria de Leyte, the likely wet nurse of the Spanish Crown Prince Philip II.
In 1558 he married Jeanne de Saint-Quentin, Baroness of Billy, and so became the owner of the property in Billy , County Artois .
On May 17, 1568, 1,800 Walloon mercenaries under de Robles' command landed on the coast near Harlingen . Six days later, Ludwig von Nassau defeated the Spanish army of governor Johann von Ligne, Count von Arenberg, who was killed in the battle of Heiligerlee . De Robles took part in the Battle of Jemgum where Ludwig von Nassau was defeated by Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alba and had to flee. In the same year he was appointed deputy governor of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe.
In 1567 he took part in the siege of Valenciennes as governor of the city of Philippeville and captain .
In 1585 he was killed in the siege of Antwerp .
