Life

Heinrich Dunkelberg was elected mayor of the municipal college in 1899 in the then independent industrial town of Linden . The incorporation of the towns of Limmer , Badenstedt , Davenstedt , Bornum and Ricklingen into the town of Linden are mainly attributable to his initiative and targeted collaboration .

The mayor, often commissioned as a special shop steward, successfully represented Linden's interests, for example in the redesign of the railroad, the creation of the Linden sewer system and the construction of the Mittelland Canal .

In the - voluntary - unification of Linden with the city of Hanover , requested by Dunkelberg long beforehand and fought off by the Hanoverian city director Heinrich Tramm for almost as long due to his resistance to the financial consequences and the fear of the strong social democratic electorate of the " workers' residence " Linden, In 1920 Heinrich Dunkelberg moved into the Hanover city parliament as mayor .

In 1921 Heinrich Dunkelberg was elected Senator for the City of Hanover. Darkberg, with his pronounced public spirit , his understanding of urban culture and economy and his knowledge of real estate, made him a sought-after advisor to the city of Hanover. He died in Bad Ems in 1934.

Dunkelberggang

The Dunkelberggang in the Linden-Mitte district was initially part of the Hohe Straße around 1850 , was renamed to Kleine Hohestraße in 1893 and was finally given its final name in 1952. According to the address book of the city of Hanover from 1970, the name resulted from the "[...] at times popularly known as Dunkelbergs Gang". In fact, the street probably got its name from the Dunkelberg family, who had owned the property at Dunkelberggang 8 since 1892 .
