Heinrich Egon Weber (born March 27, 1932 in Osnabrück , died May 2, 2020 in Bramsche ) was a German vegetation expert , musicologist and university lecturer .

Life

The son of a music teacher, composer and choir director graduated from high school in Osnabrück in 1951. From 1953 he then studied music and biology for the teaching post in secondary schools at the music academy and at the same time at the University of Hamburg . Weber had already developed a great interest in both subjects as a schoolboy. In 1956 he passed the 1st state examination with a musicological topic. In his work he dealt with the composer Leonhard Lechner , which he subsequently worked on as a dissertation . In 1962, he was on completion of the state exam in biology with the work The relationship between music and text in Latin motets Leonhard Lechner at the University of Hamburg Dr. phil. PhD . He also passed the 1st state examination in biology at the University of Hamburg, where Heinz Ellenberg was one of his academic teachers.

Since he decided after his musicological promotion to do research in botany, he put a dissertation on the vegetation and ecology of hedgerows in Schleswig-Holstein in front with which he at the geobotanist Ernst-Wilhelm Raabe at the University of Kiel Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate. From 1966 to 1968 Weber was Raabe's research assistant at the Botanical Institute at Kiel University.

During his work on the wall hedges , Weber recognized the importance of the blackberry species , which occur in numerous clans in these biotopes and shape them. Since there are only a few botanists who have in-depth knowledge of the floristry of blackberries, Weber has familiarized himself with this genus and has specialized in the taxonomy , morphology , chorology , sociology and ecology of the numerous blackberry species. He published this work as a monograph entitled The genus Rubus L. (Rosaceae) in northwestern Europe .

In 1968 Weber ended his activity as a research assistant at the University of Kiel and switched to the higher education service in Hamburg, where he first became a study assessor. In 1970 he got a job as a teacher at the school in Melle .

In 1973 he was offered a chair for biology and didactics of biology at the University of Osnabrück, Vechta department , where he taught until his retirement in 2000.

Heinrich E. Weber has been married to Elisabeth Weber, born Dreyer, since 1969. The couple have two grown daughters and live in Bramsche .
